Country music singer Chris Hawkey is a busy guy. He released a new record, titled Set Free, with all new tracks in December. (You can find it at www.chrishawkey.com.) The first record he has released as a solo artist where he’s written every song, Set Free made it to number 4 on Billboard’s Heatseekers Album Chart, number 5 on iTunes Country Album Chart and number 3 on Google Play Country New Releases – all in the first week.

On top of that, Chris also co-hosts the sports radio program, Power Trip Morning Show on KFAN FM.

What does Bell’s sponsorship mean to you?

It means a lot. I like the company very, very much. I was introduced to Bell through the Pay It Forward program.

We had a friend who would come in and watch the radio show, who was a pretty severely handicapped gentleman, and he had mentioned that he was struggling to be able to afford a new van so he could get around a little easier. It just so happened a Bell Bank employee was in the studio that morning and overheard him. Not long after that, I got an email from that employee talking about the Pay It Forward program. A lot of people put a lot of money in, and my friend got a brand-new, handicapped-accessible van because of the people of Bell. From that moment on, I knew this was the kind of company I wanted to be a part of and associated with.

Misty Scholler (a private banker in Bell’s Colonnade office) has been great, but to be honest, I’ve not had a bad experience with anybody who works at Bell Bank. They know me on a first-name basis. A couple of people have come out to my shows. When I’m talking to Misty in the back offices, everybody’s high-fiving me and talking about the radio shows. It’s become like an extended part of my family. I feel like I work there, because I’m in there so often, and we know each other. It’s the best!

My favorite service:

Online banking and the Bell Bank app have been lifesavers for me. We do so many transactions with my band and with my business, I need to know on a constant basis how much money is in there, how much money is going out and that the transactions I’ve made have gone through. To be able to pull it up on my phone so easily and have access to all of my accounts has been a godsend for me. We do a lot of small transactions, and to be able to see that they have gone through in a moment’s notice – boy, that’s really helpful and takes the worry out of doing business.

What I tell others about Bell:

The first thing I tell them is that this is a family-owned business made up of good people. Bell Bank’s growth is going to give more people an opportunity to work with a family-owned, family-run business that has scruples. I tell everybody that it feels like a small bank with all the amenities of a giant bank. You have a choice, you know. There are so many banks. Choose one that cares about you as well.

What it means to bank at a privately owned community bank:

It means a lot to me. I love the idea of supporting a smaller business and knowing the people I’m working with are benefitting directly from my business. I was born and raised in the upper Midwest, and I love that Bell is an upper Midwest company. It feels like I’m banking with somebody who lives around the corner from me.

I love the whole idea of it. The fact that the company has taken time and money and not only made it an initiative for their employees to go out and help people, but made it easy and made it a priority for their employees to go help people, I think it’s a wonderful thing, and I wish more companies did that.
